Work & Education
I am a 32 year old student at Illinois Media School. I currently am working to get into a career in radio broadcasting. My previous work experience involves retail store management and business fixture/equipment liquidation.
I enjoy listening to all kinds of music. I like music from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, but am not too much into hip-hop/rap except for maybe Sugarhill Gang or Sir Mix A Lot. I also enjoy watching television. Normally my TV is on the FOX News Channel as I watch many of their shows, but I also like shows like Bar Rescue, Restaurant Impossible, and reruns of old TV game shows from the ’70s and ’80s now shown on Buzzr. Many times, I’ll watch videos online on YouTube from reruns of old TV shows to random people just doing stupid things. I am very much into AM talk radio, especially radio talk shows involving politics, and have been listening to AM talk since the mid-’90s. I got into AM talk radio from my dad who always listened to it in the car when I was a kid. I like listening to shows like Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Steve Dahl, Roe Conn, The Morning Answer with Dan Proft and Amy Jacobson, and many others. I also enjoy going out for a drive with the windows down on a nice day.
During my high school years, I had an interest in local television news production, specifically the creative/promotions side of it. I was interested in things like the graphics and set you see on a newscast and the news music packages and image campaign songs you hear for the station. I was studying and going to school studying business and promotions until I got sidetracked by a job offer I couldn’t refuse in 2003. Since then, I have worked in retail management for some of the world’s largest retailers which required me to drive many miles to many different places. Spending all that time in my car, I had a lot of time to listen to radio, especially AM talk radio, which got me more interested in getting a career in it.
The Here & Now
In 2015, I had a workplace injury which now prevents me from continuing the line of work I’ve been doing previously. During my recuperation, a number of friends told me that this is the time to go back to school to “chase my dreams.” In April 2017, I got a phone from Kelly at The Illinois Media School to stop by for a tour of the facility where I am now a student.
